about us
Every piece at Duck in a Bucket Designs is individually handmade by Ema Kelly.
During her degree she was able to gain skills in many other materials such as metal, ceramics and textiles. However her true passion has always lain in glass making. A material unlike any other, this solid liquid had her attention from the first time she tried her hand at glass blowing. This then lead to her specialising in hot glass making techniques throughout her time at university. She graduated from the International Glass Centre in 2008, creating unconventional pieces with a flair for innovative design.
With support from the Prince's Trust (for which she is now a Young Ambassador), Ema set up her own lampworking studio in Leicester, where she creates her small scale artworks and provides private tuition to anyone wanting to explore the technique. She also rents a glass blowing studio in the West Midlands to regularly produce her furnace pieces as an Associate of the International Glass Centre.
Ema is quickly establishing herself as a talented young glass artist, winning several regional and national awards for her work.
our glass
Using hot glass techniques, Ema takes inspiration from her surroundings, the
outdoors and even the glass itself to create her contemporary ranges of
homeware, gifts and jewellery. She particularly enjoys crafting works that can be displayed back in the environment where the idea was first conceived. Her use of bold colours combined with her simple 'no fuss' forms has made her work striking and desirable to an array of clientele. Her designs sway from quirky to elegant, all the time illustrating the tactile fluidity of the material and the vibrancy of colours available.
